Let’s Shout About the Black Rhodium Stylus Tonearm Cable!
The Black Rhodium Stylus Tonearm Cable has long been the only one that we are happy to sell. It’s a nicely made, no-nonsense thing that happens to sound great and doesn’t cost the earth. It’s been well-reviewed – see Paul Rigby’s review here:
Just recently we have been comparing cables at different price points, and the Stylus comfortably beats an expensive pure silver Litz cable in terms of tone, definition and that difficult-to-describe parameter, musicality. The Stylus just sounds naturally ‘right’ with great portrayal of detail and with great musical flow – it’s all very natural and not ‘forced’. This is with a Miyajima Shilabe stereo cartridge, into a number of different Step Up Transformer and MC head amplifier options.
The other cable that we compared the Stylus to came from a well-regarded eBay seller, and costs a very modest £125 for a pure silver handmade cable with very good quality connectors and really nice build quality. But, it sounds indistinct, and instruments that are clearly and delightfully reproduced via the Stylus are muddles together. Musically, it’s not very good at all, which is a disappointment because it’s made by a very nice and honest chap.
We mention all this because many people will think that £350 for a cable is too much money and will wonder why its performance can possibly justify that price tag. Well, its performance is way better than many much more expensive tonearm cables, but as for the price, we think it’s fair, but like anything else in the webshop, anyone is welcome to make a lower offer on a Stylus cable. We’ll consider any sensible offer!
