Phasemation PP-2000 Stereophile Review
Michael Fremer reviewed the Phasemation PP-2000 in Stereophile’s January 2021 Analog Corner.
No surprise to us, Michael noted the unusually exemplary technical alignment of the PP-2000 – something that we have seen with every Phasemation cartridge, from the new PP-200 right up to this range-topping PP-2000. Very few cartridges are so easy to set up, using just the maker’s specifications.
Michael uses terms like ‘lush’ and ‘sumptuous’ to describe the PP-2000’s sound character, which might lead you to think that it’s somehow going to be rather soft and self-effacing, but it is not; and to be fair he does go on to mention sounds being ‘just pleasingly round and believable’. ‘Believable’ is a good term to apply to the PP-2000’s sound – wonderfully open, natural and vibrant sound, without any hard edged ‘HiFi’ artifice. The PP-2000 is one cartridge that really does present performers and performances so that you feel you could just reach out to them.
Do read the review – it’s a really good summary of what makes the Phasemation PP-2000 very special, and the UK price of £3995 starts to look very reasonable against exotic competition.
