Ortofon SPU GTX Stereo Cartridge, With Integral Step-Up Transformer
Price range: £949.00 through £999.00
We are very pleased to be offering Ortofon’s new SPU GTX S and SPU GTX E stereo moving coil cartridges, which feature in-built step up transfomers from Swedish company Lundahl, so these cartridges have 4mV outputs and are designed to connect to moving magnet phono stages. Ortofon have also employed a new, stronger glass fibre reinforced plastic shell and bottom cover, for greater rigidity and resonance control. Weight is a hefty 38g, so do check that your tonearm can cope with that – Ortofon’s new AS-212R and AS-309R tonearms are ideal partners. Read the latest review here. Free UK shipping
Description
We are very pleased to be offering the new Ortofon SPU GTX Stereo Moving Coil cartridges, which complement the existing SPU range and feature a built-in step-up transformer, a new glass-fibre reinforced housing, and the option of a spherical diamond tip (SPU GTX S) or an elliptical tip (SPU GTX E). Apart from the different tips, both models share the same construction, mechanical and electrical characteristics.
Precision Engineering and Craftsmanship
SPU GTX cartridges are hand-built by experienced Ortofon workers in Denmark, as for that matter are all SPUs. Their ‘G’ type shells are moulded in one piece from a specially selected glass-fibre reinforced co-polymer, never before used for SPU cartridges. This ensures a form-factor stable, rigid, and low resonance housing for the moving coil cartridge generator. The bottom cover is moulded from the same new material, encapsulating the cartridge generator in a uniform material and design.
Weight is a hefty 38g, so do check that your tonearm can cope with that – Ortofon’s new AS-212R and AS-309R tonearms are ideal partners, as is the new GrooveMaster 4 tonearm.
Built-in Step-up Transformer for Higher Output
By integrating a step-up transformer, the cartridge can be connected directly to any standard phono stage or amplifier as if it were a
moving magnet cartridge, while ensuring optimum impedance matching and loading. When developing the GTX series, Ortofon chose to develop the new step-up transformers in collaboration Lundahl Transformers. Lundahl is known for their expertise in audio transformers and is a perfect fit for Ortofon.

A Modern Classic for Today’s Vinyl Enthusiast
The SPU GTX cartridges offer the best of both worlds, combining the musicality and rich tonal character that has defined Ortofon’s
SPU series for decades with the latest innovations in audio technology.
